Looks as if Harmonix is definitely listening to its fans with this most recent update to the Rock Band 2 software for PS3. The Lead Designer of Rock Band 2, Dan Teasdale, posted a blog post about the updates mentioning that many of the updates were fan suggestions and common feature requests. The update will be available this thursday on [...]

January 2010 Guitar Hero DLC The people over at Guitar Hero have just released the DLC calendar for January 2010. This months DLC includes the likes of Vampire Weekend, Credence Clearwater Revival, and Dethlok amongst others. This made me laugh a bit as I just recently heard of Vampire Weekend due to a co-worker constantly playing their CD on repeat [...]

This is just one of those decisions that you just want to kick youself in the ass for. The story is that Mad Catz, mainly a game peripheral company, was originally involved in the creation of an Xbox Version of the original Guitar Hero on launch. As you know the original Guitar Hero only debuted on PS2. This was Mad [...]

The You Rock Guitar Controller is basically a fake Guitar Controller and a real Guitar Combined and made able to play Guitar Hero. This Guitar has actual string that the user must press and pluck in order to activate the icons that are flying at them on screen. The concept is cool, but I could see it being decently difficult [...]

Ringo Starr has recently admitted that he is “really bad” at playing The Beatles Rock Band Drums. “I’m really bad at it but I’ve tried it”, said the Beatle. “We tried it when they were putting it together and they’d bring all these geniuses out to play it. It’s too frantic for me.” This comes as no surprise to me [...]

After DJ Guetta let the news slip about a new DJ Hero game slated for release this year, Activision is finally confirming the rumor. Activision however did not add a “2″ to the end of the game instead opting for the more ambiguous “a future instalment” language. “Do you want your song mashed up in the next DJ Hero?” Activision [...]

There are reports that Megadeth has been having “high level meetings” with the people over at Activision and Neversoft talking about the possibility of a some type of new Guitar Hero Megadeth game. I have recently had two very important high-level meetings with the people from Activision and Neversoft, and we are talking about a lot of things, but a [...]

Activision claims that their new DJ Hero Game made the most money out of any new game this year, and I fully believe them. However, the statistic is not as impressive as it sounds. 1. DJ Hero sold bundled with a Turntable with $100 price tag. This means that the other games in the running for this title would have [...]

Guitar Hero III World Tour

Guitar Hero has become a cultural phenomenon in the world of computer video games. The guitar, software, and accessories are availabe in all gaming platforms including Wii, Playstation, Xbox, etc. Guitar Hero is a series of music video games published by RedOctane, in partnership with Activision. The series is notable for its use of a plastic guitar peripheral to simulate the playing of music, represented on-screen by colored notes that correspond to fret buttons on the controller.

Heidi Klum Guitar Hero

Their has recently been a controversial advertisement with model Heidi Klum playing Guitar Hero in her undergarments! The games support individual play as well as cooperative and competitive modes for two players. The series has used a range of both licensed and independent rock music tracks from the 1960s, throughout the decades to the present, including many master tracks from the bands. In total, six games have been released for video game consoles. Games have also been released for mobile phones and the Nintendo DS handheld gaming system.

History

The series was originally developed by Harmonix Music Systems from 2005 to 2007. Then development duties of the series were transferred to Neversoft, whose first effort, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock was released on October 28, 2007 in North America.

The Guitar Hero franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, making many appearances in popular culture, and the games have become extremely popular as party games and hobbies. The series has sold 23 million units, earning .6 billion in retail sales.

Guitar Controller

Guitar Hero is unusual because it comes packaged with a controller peripheral modeled after a black Gibson SG guitar. Rather than a typical gamepad. This guitar controller is the primary input for the game. Playing the game with the guitar controller simulates playing an actual guitar, except it uses five colored “fret buttons” and a “strum bar” instead of frets and strings. The development of Guitar Hero was inspired by Konami’s GuitarFreaks arcade game, which at the time, had not seen much exposure in the North American market; RedOctane, already selling guitar-shaped controllers for imported copies of GuitarFreaks, approached Harmonix about creating a game to use an entirely new Guitar controller.

The concept was to have the gameplay of Amplitude with the visuals of Karaoke Revolution, both of which had been developed by Harmonix. The game was met with critical acclaim and received numerous awards for its innovative guitar peripheral and its soundtrack, which comprised 47 playable rock songs (most of which were cover versions of popular songs from artists and bands from the 1960s through modern rock). Guitar Hero has sold nearly 1.5 million copies to date.

Guitar Hero II Release

The popularity of the series increased dramatically with the release of Guitar Hero II for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. Featuring improved multiplayer gameplay, an improved note-recognizing system, and 64 songs, it became the fifth best-selling video game of 2006. The PlayStation 2 version of the game was offered both separately and in a bundle with a cherry red Gibson SG guitar controller. Guitar Hero II was later released for the Xbox 360 in April 2007 with an exclusive Gibson X-Plorer guitar controller and an additional 10 songs, among other features. About 3 million units of Guitar Hero II have sold on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360.

The final game in the Guitar Hero series to be developed by Harmonix was Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s for the PlayStation 2, which was released in July 2007. This final game version, changing the visuals from Guitar Hero II, and shortening the song list with no bonus songs was not as well received by reviewers.

Transition

Transition Both RedOctane and Harmonix were experiencing changes in 2006. RedOctane was bought by Activision in June while it was announced in September that Harmonix would be purchased by MTV Networks. As a result of the two purchases, Harmonix would no longer develop future games in the Guitar Hero series. Instead, developing would go to Neversoft, a subsidiary of Activision known for developing the Tony Hawk’s series of skateboarding games.

Neversoft

Neversoft was chosen to helm the Guitar Hero series after Neversoft founder, Joel Jewett, admitted to the RedOctane founders, Kai and Charles Huang, that his development team for Tony Hawk’s Project 8 went to work on weekends just to play Guitar Hero. In 2007, Harmonix and MTV Games released a new music title through rival publisher Electronic Arts, called Rock Band. It expanded upon the gameplay popularized by the Guitar Hero series by adding drum and microphone instruments, allowing players to simulate playing songs as bands, though this functionality has now been implemented in Guitar Hero World Tour.

Guitar Hero III:

Legends of Rock was released in late 2007 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, and Mac platforms. The title is the first installment of the series to include wireless guitars bundled with the game and also the first to release a special bundle with two guitars. The game includes Slash and Tom Morello as playable characters in addition to the existing fictional avatars; both guitarists performed motion capture to be used for their characters animation in the game.

Guitar Hero III World Tour (aka Guitar Hero IV)

Guitar Hero World Tour, previously named Guitar Hero IV, is the fourth full game in the series and was released on October 26, 2008 for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. Analysts had expected that future Guitar Hero games in 2008 would include additional instrument peripherals to compete against Rock Band. Guitar Hero World Tour was confirmed as in development following the announcement of the merger between Activision and Vivendi Games in December 2007. Activision’s CEO Bobby Kotick announced on April 21, 2008 that Guitar Hero World Tour will branch out into other instruments including vocals. Guitar Hero World Tour includes drums and is packaged with a new drum set controller. A larger number of real-world musicians appear as playable characters, including the great Jimi Hendrix, Billy Corgan, Sting, and Ozzy Osbourne. Guitar Hero World Tour also features the creation of custom songs that can be shared with others.

On September 4, 2007, Billboard announced that the band Aerosmith was “working closely with the makers of Guitar Hero IV, which will be dedicated to the group’s music.” On February 15, 2008, Activision announced that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, an expansion game to the series, would be released on June 29, 2008.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is developed by Neversoft for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, while the Wii version of the game is developed by Vicarious Visions and the PlayStation 2 version is developed by Budcat Creations. The game features a track selection composed of 60% of Aerosmith songs, with other songs from Joe Perry’s solo work or artists that have inspired or performed with Aerosmith, including Run D.M.C. Also in the works: Activision’s 2008 SEC filings cited that they plan to release Guitar Hero: Metallica by the first quarter of 2009.

By all expectations Guitar Hero will once again be the number one selling computer video game of the year in 2008. The Guitar Hero phenomenon lives on!

Guitar Hero Wii Download – Do You Want To Download Guitar Hero For The Wii Or Do You Want The Different Versions Of Guitar Hero?

Guitar Hero is one of my favorite games for the Wii. I can play it all night long. I especially like the online play because it allows me to play against people from all over the world that I donâ??t know.

The most frustrating part about Guitar hero is the amount of different versions that have came out for it. There is now Aerosmith, Rock band, world tour and Vegas rocks. We are now expected to pay over for each and every one of the games to get more songs for them.

This annoyed me so much that I went out myself and found a way to get round this. I got Guitar Hero as a Wii download from one of the download sites that I am a member of. My membership cost me and it has been the best I have spent. I have now got all the Guitar Hero games Aerosmith, Rock band, World Tour and Vegas Rocks and I can play them all online as well.

There was no need for a mod chip to enable me to do this it was all software based. All I do is login to the membership site download the game that I want Burn it to DVD and the play it on my wii simple as that. Everyone thinks it is going to be more difficult but it really is only as difficult as you want to make it. If you can follow a few instructions then you can get your wii modded and be able to play downloaded wii games directly on your wii console.

If you are looking for Guitar Hero wii download then you need to get a membership with this site as it will save you a lot of time and money. In the long run it will also save you frustration and the time waiting for new games to come onot the market. You can fill up your collection with as many games as you want for the one off membership fee.

So what are you waiting for follow the link below to find out how you too can take advantage of this new software â??

by Rabid Rabbit

World Tour follows in Rock Bands footsteps by adding drums, vocals and a band career, but it also adds a few new features. A robust song creator engine lets you create your own songs and download others songs, but the resulting songs are all low quality productions that arent as fun to play as original popular songs. While the drum and vocal gameplay dont differ much from Rock Band, the guitar gameplay does include a few new features that will challenge seasoned veterans in new ways.

The main addition to the series is the inclusion of drums, vocals and band gameplay modes that are nearly identical to the experience created by the first Rock Band game. The only difference from Rock Bands drums and vocals gameplay is that you can use your star power at any point during a song rather than waiting for drum or vocal solo sections. Each instrument has solo sections, but they are only used to give you bonus points rather than starting your star power. Activision made a new set of drums for World Tour that includes cymbal pads raised above the other drum pads and a new guitar with fret buttons further down the neck. Dont worry if you already own older versions of these instruments. You dont need to buy these new variations to play the game.

Each of the instruments, including the bass guitar, has its own career mode. In each career, youll progressively tour the world and unlock new and more difficult songs. For each set you complete, youll receive money for how well you perform, which you can use to customize your characters clothes, hair, instruments and a wide variety of other features. You can also use your earnings to gain access to a few exclusive sets of songs. If your primary interest is to unlock all of the games songs, you can also choose to change the games difficulty to progress beyond the harder songs.

In addition to simply playing songs, youll also face off against famous musicians during your career. Guitar Hero III handled these encounters with a battle mode where you had to make your adversary fail a song by using powerups that made the song more difficult for your opponent to play. World Tour simplifies these encounters by merely asking you to perform the song well enough to prevent the audience from completely favoring your opponent, which is much less challenging. After you defeat famous rockers, such as Jimi Hendrix, Ozzie Osbourne, and Billy Corgan, youll be able to perform using their likenesses.

The Band career mode is also nearly identical to the Rock Band gameplay where you go on stage with at least one other friend to play the same songs and earn cash to further customize your characters. The main difference is that you cant directly save each other from failing songs. The game handles saving members by letting the band share star power among its members. The result is that your group will need to collaborate and use the star power strategically. If one member is missing a ton of notes, then the band will need to let the other members earn the star power and tell him to use it to ensure everyone doesnt get booed off stage.

World Tour is clearly trying to broaden its audience by lowering the overall difficulty settings and adding the new beginner mode. The Guitar Hero series is known to have more difficult note patterns, but World Tour has noticeably easier note patterns that also fly by at a slower speed. As a result, the Rock Band and World Tour difficulties are virtually identical. The new Beginner difficulty serves to allow people completely new to rhythm gaming to play by simply hitting any note at the correct time without having to switch fingers between notes.

While drums and vocals are included for the first time in the series, the guitar gameplay also changed to add new note patterns. There are some new sections with multiple notes that you must hold down that begin at varying points. Some other notes only require you to press the fret buttons to play them. Removing the need to strum the guitar for these sections makes the game easier and detracts from the feeling that you are playing a famous song. The only reason it seems that they included these simpler notes is to give people a reason to buy their new guitar. The latest guitar includes buttons positioned closely together lower on the guitar neck, which are easier to glide across in these simpler sections. Dont worry if you want to play the game with an older guitar you shouldnt have any problems by using the standard fret buttons.

The last main change to the series is the ability to make your own songs and download other gamers songs. Initially this sounds like a cool new feature, but it doesnt amount to a very large addition. Making your own songs involves choosing an instrument and playing notes to record your song. You can also record notes for each instrument to generate a song that a full band can play together. After you finish creating the songs notes you can alter the sound further with various effects, such as giving the guitar track a twang or metal effect, the songs tempo and a wide variety of other features. Then you can upload your creation for others to play and rate. If you just want to download other peoples songs, you can easily find the most popular songs based on the ratings other players give them. While the creation process is robust, the actual songs have a low sound quality. The highest rated songs generally have a great sense of rhythm, but they just arent as engrossing as playing the well-known songs heard on the radio.

World Tour includes quite a few online multiplayer game modes. You can face off against another guitar, drum or vocals player to see who is better at playing an entire song or alternating sections of the same song. Guitar players can also play the battle mode, where they compete to play a song more accurately while using powers to increase their opponents difficulty. As you play in the Battle mode, you earn a wide variety of powers that invert note patterns, remove the whammy bars effect, or make some notes impossible to play. You can also play songs co-operatively on the guitar with a friend.

If you cant get enough bandmates together locally, then you can fill in missing members with online players the game finds for you. You can also get your band together to play songs competitively against another band online. The only problems I found with the band gameplay online is that it is very difficult to find someone to sing songs, but thats not the games fault. Even if a singer joins your band, many players quit because they cant sing the song that is chosen by other members. I presume this happens because it is much harder to sing songs than it is to play them with an instrument.

The gameplay options and modes are quite expansive, but it would have been nice if updatable challenges could have made it into the game. Rock Band 2 includes a variety of challenges related to playing groups of songs from the same band, genre or decade with particular instruments or as a band. The developers constantly update the challenges list to ensure players never get bored with the same list of challenges. This constantly updated list of challenges gives the game a great sense of variety as players endlessly challenge themselves to get the highest score in all the different leaderboards.

The game includes a lot of songs that you can play in 4 different careers, but there is also a great online shop that offers an expanding library of new songs to download and play. Taking its cue from the Rock Band store, you can sort songs according to artist, decade and album to easily find the style of music you like. You can also preview songs before purchasing them, which increases the chance you will try something from a band you havent heard before.

The game includes over 90 songs, which are all master recordings. In addition to popular songs ranging from classic rock to the latest rock songs from this decade, the game also includes some pop and country hits, such as Beat It and On the Road Again, which further expands the games appeal. A lot of the games draw depends on if you like the songs included with the game, so make sure to review the song list before buying the game.

World Tour pushes the series to match Rock Bands offering by including drums, vocals and band gameplay, while also adding new guitar note patterns. The varied and expansive online game modes and growing downloadable song library ensure that the game will keep you entertained for quite some time. The engine used to create new songs offers a great deal of options, but the resulting lower quality songs will likely only interest the most hardcore of rhythm gamers who enjoy a good challenge. Many of the games changes simply match Rock Bands features and fail to push the series or genre forward a great deal. Overall, World Tour is a good game that will keep gamers rocking until the next game is released, but it is also showing that the genres creativity may be peaking.
