Official Guitar Hero 5 Music Compatibility Info

Postby Neversoft » Tue Sep 01, 2009 7:06 pm

Hey everyone,

We're really excited to finally share some official information on the Song Importing and DLC compatibility technology inside the Xbox360, PS3, and Wii versions of Guitar Hero 5. We've been reading your posts and working on this feature for a long, long time. GH5 will allow almost all of your downloadable songs for Guitar Hero World Tour, and select songs from the Guitar Hero World Tour game disc, to work inside the game. It also lays the foundation for us to offer additional volumes of music in the *** - allowing owners to build a "Guitar Hero Music Library" of compatible songs on their console. Below you'll find a Q&A outlining what you will see at launch, how it works, and what is coming soon. We will be putting these questions in the FAQ very soon as well.

Thanks - Neversoft

* Does the DLC I purchased for Guitar Hero World Tour work in GH5?

Yes, for most DLC songs. You will need a free update file that you can download inside Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero. The update file will enhance the features of the Guitar Hero World Tour songs by adding band moments, vocal star power, and other new features present in Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero. Currently 152 of the 158 GHWT DLC songs will work in this manner. (Note: The six downloadable Jimi Hendrix songs from Guitar Hero World Tour are not included.)

* Do I need to re-download the original DLC songs I purchased for Guitar Hero World Tour to get the upgraded song features?

No. You only need to download the free GHWT DLC Compatibility Update offered inside Guitar Hero 5. This single file will update all of your existing DLC so re-downloading those individual songs is not necessary.

* What game modes in GH5 support songs from the GH Music Library?

GH Music Library songs can be played in Party Play, Quickplay, Career, Practice and all of our online and offline competitive modes, which includes the new Rockfest.

* Can I import songs from other Guitar Hero games I own?

In Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero, we will introduce technology to allow this to happen. You will be able to import some disc-based songs from Guitar Hero World Tour and select other games for a nominal re-licensing fee. Activision is working with music companies and artists to secure as much disc-based music as possible for inclusion in this program - so stay tuned!

* What game/songs will be available at first?

When Guitar Hero 5 launches, select songs from Guitar Hero World Tour will be available for import. Shortly after launch, select songs from Guitar Hero Smash Hits (Guitar Hero Greatest Hits in Europe), a compilation of some of the greatest songs from previous Guitar Hero games, optimized for band play, will be available.

* What will it cost to Import Songs?

You must be a Guitar Hero World Tour or Guitar Hero Smash Hits (Guitar Hero Greatest Hits in Europe), owner to participate. In order to access the import, you will need to use your 20 digit Unique Owner ID that's printed on the back of the manual of the game you are importing from. (Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits for the Wii in Europe uses a 16-digit code.) Guitar Hero World Tour song imports are available for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 280 Microsoft Points and on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system for $3.49 (North America)50 and Nintendo® Wii™ for 350 Wii Points

* Will I be charged for *** games? Will I need to download again for each new Guitar Hero game tahtthat supports this feature?

No. This is a one time re-licensing fee. Once the songs are on your Hard Drive (or SD card) all *** games that support this feature will automatically access them.

* How does the system work in the game?

Xbox 360 and PS3
Inside the Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero Options menu there is an Import Songs selection. After you select it you will see a listing of offers you available forcan import, and a listing of the songs contained in each offer. Once you select an offer you will be asked for your Unique Owner ID from the back of your game manual matching the game from which the songs originate. If your code is valid, then you will be asked to pay the applicable fee, and then the download will commence. When the download is finished, the songs will appear in your set list right alongside your other songs.

Wii
In the Music Store there is a Special Offers section. After selecting Special Offers, you can navigate to the listing of the game content you wish to access. After selecting this volume of content you will be asked your Unique Owner ID from the back of your game manual matching the game from which the songs originate. If your code is valid, then you will be asked to pay the applicable fee. After purchase you will be given the option to select the songs from the volume that you want to download to your Wii¢s System Memory or to an SD Card. You can select a subset of songs to download, or the entire set. These songs will be available from the store in the *** to download (at no additional cost) if you decide not to download them in this initial download. When the download is finished, the songs will appear in your setlist right alongside your other songs.

* Guitar Hero World Tour Wii copies in Europe do not have a manual code - can owners import songs?

Yes. Owners of GHWT Wii in Europe will be able to import the selected disc content to GH5 and Band Hero. Here are the steps and requirements for successful importing on the Wii.
• Ensure that you have valid save game data from EU version of GHWT on your Wii.
• Load Guitar Hero 5 or Band Hero
• Select “Special Offers” in the Music Store
• Select the “Guitar Hero: World Tour” offer
• If you accept the legal terms, choose accept on the pop-up.
• Select the songs available from the disc import that you would like to download immediately. (All songs left un-checked can be downloaded at a *** date for no extra cost, if desired.)
• Wii point balances are displayed for both pre- and post-purchase states.
• Choose to accept the transaction
• The content then begins downloading to your system

* How big are the downloads?

Just like DLC, these are the ***, high quality versions of the in-game songs. As such, when bundled together, the package will be quite large, similar in size to an equivalent number of DLC songs.

* Do I need to boot or update the original game disc?

No. You can access all the songs available for import from within Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero. You will need your original game Unique Owner ID as mentioned above.

* Can I manage the imported songs individually?

On Xbox 360 and PS3 players must download the *** set of songs. On all platforms players can delete files (if you run out of space) and can re-download them at a later date at no cost. For the Wii, after purchasing the content set players will be able select the individual songs they want to save to their SD card.

* What if I delete the songs after I download them - can I get them back?

Yes. You can re-download any offer that you have purchased, just like you can with DLC.

* Can I share or resell my Unique Owner ID?

No, your ID is unique to the purchaser of the original game and is non-transferrable - it should not be shared or resold and can only be used one time.

* Will more disc songs be made available for Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Smash Hits (Guitar Hero Greatest Hits in Europe) for import?

The technology allows us to release additional "volumes" of Song Imports for all titles. Activision is working with music companies and artists to secure as much disc-based music as possible for inclusion in this program - so stay tuned!

* Will the Disc Import offers available now be updated in the ***? Will new songs be added?

No. If new songs become available an additional import will appear in the Import Offers list. There will be a nominal re-licensing fee for any additional offers.
